Grace in the Grind: The Empowered Nest- How My Homeschooling Journey Began
My homeschooling journey didn’t start with a grand plan, a Pinterest-perfect curriculum, or even much clarity. It began in the middle of the 2023–2024 school year, in a whirlwind of fear, frustration, and a fierce love for my children.
The public school system failed us—mentally, emotionally, and physically. As both a parent and a former employee of that system, I felt betrayed. My trust was shattered, and the only thing I knew for sure was that I could no longer allow my children to stay in an environment that made them feel unsafe. Public schools work for some children, but it didn't for mine.
So, I made a move.
According to the law, I had 15 days to either enroll my kids elsewhere or file to homeschool. I didn’t know what I was doing, and honestly, I still don’t have it all figured out. But what I did have was the heart to try. I chose to homeschool, and I chose to start—messy and all.
With a background in child development and family science, I knew that kids thrive in structured, predictable environments. So I got to work—creating routines, learning laws, finding resources, and doing my best to build a nurturing learning space that centered not only academic growth, but also cultural identity, emotional safety, and joy.
This blog, Grace in the Grind: The Empowered Nest, is part of that journey. It's a place where I’ll share the highs, the lows, the “what was I thinking?” moments, and the little wins that make it all worth it. Here, you’ll find a mix of evidence-based insights and faith-filled encouragement for parenting, homeschooling, self-care, and empowerment.
I started this space not just to tell my story, but to create community—a space where other parents can feel seen, supported, and strong enough to take the next right step, even if it’s a messy one.
If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, unsure, or just plain tired while trying to raise your kids right in a world that doesn’t always make it easy, you’re not alone. I hope this blog inspires you, challenges you, and maybe even gives you a few deep sighs of relief.
And if this speaks to even one person, then I know I’m doing something right.
Come back soon—I have so much more to share.
